EUROPEAN JEWISH ASSOCIATION “HUMBLED” AS EU LEADERS LIKE MACRON, JUNCKER AND TZIPRAS TAKE PART IN CANDLE CAMPAIGN

The European Jewish Association (EJA) thanked the many European Leaders who lit an EJA candle that was sent to them and posted pictures of themselves lighting it on social media with under the EJA campaign #NotOnMyWatch

Presidents and Prime Ministers from across Europe including France, Austria, Greece, Czech Republic, Malta, Moldova and Serbia, the European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker and the majority of his Commissioners, as well as Ministers and the Vice-Chancellor of Germany all took part, posting pictures, and messages of support and solidarity, including the hashtag and the hashtag EJA.

Speaking as the Memorial day ended, EJA Founder Rabbi Menachem Margolin, who heads up the Brussels based Association that represents Jews across the continent, said in a statement,

“With rising anti-Semitism, neo-nazi attacks and a worrying increase in populist, nationalistic and xenophobic parties access to power, this day was more important than ever this year. We are humbled that so many European Leaders stopped not only to reflect, but to state clearly and loudly to their combined thousands of followers: Not on my watch.

“Because the oldest hatred isn’t just a memory, it still exists today. And we all need to be vigilant. We all need to re-double our efforts to eradicate it. The fact that so many European Leaders showed their support and awareness of this fact is very encouraging. I thank them all for their clear support for the Jewish people of Europe, on whose behalf the EJA exists.”
