European Jewish leader Rabbi Menachem Margolin says Brussels police told him to remove his kippah at his own event.
Police instructed the organizer of an eventcelebrating Europe’s technological ties with Israel in Brussels to remove his kippah.
“I was just requested by a security officer to remove my kippah for security reasons,” Rabbi Menachem Margolin, the founder of the European Jewish Association and Europe Israel Public Affairs, told Arutz Sheva outside the event.
“But I will never do it,” said Rabbi Margolin.
Despite the police’s request, Rabbi Margolin said that the event was “great” and that “thousands of people celebrated Jerusalem’s high tech.”
“This is the second time that we brought Israeli technology, high tech companies from Jerusalem, to present what they do here in Brussels in front of the European parliament.
“Thousands of people enjoy and can see what Jerusalem can contribute to their lives,” he said.

מנהיגי הקהילות היהודיות באירופה התכנסו אתמול בעיר פורטו שבפורטוגל ביוזמת איגוד הארגונים היהודיים באירופה (EJA) לכינוס חירום נגד האנטישמיות הגואה ביבשת, בהשתתפות נציגים מממשלות אירופה הממונים על המלחמה באנטישמיות. המשתתפים קיבלו החלטה המקדמת בברכה את תוכניות הממשלות השונות למלחמה באנטישמיות, אך הביעו דאגה עזה על הנטייה לקשר את הפעילות נגד האנטישמיות לזו נגד
הגזענות בכלל וצורות אחרות של אפליה.

לטענתם, האנטישמיות היא ייחודית. המנהיגים יצאו נגד עקרון ה”אינטרסקציונליות” הפופולרי היום וקבעו שיש מעט מאוד אמפטיה לקהילות היהודיות מצד קבוצות מותקפות אחרות, בגלל תמיכתן של אותן קהילות יהודיות בישראל. המנהיגים קראו למסודות האיחוד האירופי לקדם החלטה שתאסור על בעלי עמדות אנטישמיות לכהן בתפקידים רשמיים במוסדות האיחוד.

“אנו מחויבים למדינת ישראל תחת כל ממשלה נבחרת ומתפללים להגברת הלכידות החברתית בארץ. קוראים לפוליטיקאים הישראלים לזכור שלהחלטות אפילו להצהרות על אפליית מיעוטים בישראל השלכות חמורות על חיי יהודים באירופה”, ציינו המנהיגים. יו”ר איגוד הארגונים היהודיים, הרב מנחם מרגולין, אמר כי מנהיגי הקהילות הפועלים נגד האנטישמיות אינם זוכים לשיתוף פעולה מצד הפוליטיקאים במדינות השונות ועליהם להתאחד בפעילותם. המנהיגים דורשים מהאיחוד גם פעילות מתואמת למלחמה בהכחשת השואה.

סגן הנשיא לענייני קידום חיי האזרחים באירופה של נציבות האיחוד האירופי, מרגריטיס שינאס, אמר כי יישום תוכנית הפעולה האירופית מתקדם, אך עדיין 38% מהיהודים ביבשת הודיעו על רצונם לעזוב אותה. הנציבות מטילה על כל הממשלות את האחריות ליישום תוכנית המלחמה באנטישמיות לצד בנייתם של החיים היהודיים באירופה. 19 מדינות באירופה פרסמו עד כה תוכנית למלחמה באנטישמיות.

במהלך הכינוס הוקרנה הודעת וידיאו מוקלטת של עמיחי שיקלי, שר התפוצות והמאבק באנטישמיות והשר לשוויון חברתי, שבה התייחס שיקלי לחשיבות המלחמה באנטישמיות. הכינוס נערך גם כמחווה של הזדהות עם קהילת יהודי פורטו, שנמצאת במשבר קשה ביחסיה עם השלטון הפורטוגלי מאז מרץ בשנה שעברה, כאשר הואשמה בהנפקה בלתי חוקית של אישורים לצורך קבלת אזרחות פורטוגלית לישראלים רבים, ובין
היתר לאוליגרך הרוסי רומן אברמוביץ’.

נשיא הקהילה בפורטו, גבריאל סנדרוביץ’, אמר ל”מעריב” כי הנתק עם השלטונות נמשך עד היום.תומר אלדובי, מייסד הפורום למאבק
נגד אנטישמיות ברשת, מסר כי בתקופת מגפת הקורונה ומאז תחילת המלחמה שפרצה באוקראינה, בעקבות הפלישה שלהצבא הרוסי, יש עלייה ניכרת בפוסטים אנטישמיים.

European Jewish Association Chairman Rabbi Menachem Margolin and Senior Advisory Board Member and Chairman of the EJA Committee for combatting antisemitism Chief Rabbi Jacobs yesterday held a meeting with European Commissioner for Health and Food Safety Stella Kyriakides.
In a frank and honest exchange of views, the Rabbis expressed their gratitude for statements against antisemitism but said that nowhere near enough was being done by the European Commission to defend the fundamental right of Freedom of Religion. The EJA Senior representatives pointed to the recent Belgian and Polish political initiatives that seek to limit access to Kosher meat as evidence of a lack of impetus by the EU Institutions to defending freedom of religion from political interference.
The EJA thanked the Commissioner for her time, and will continue our efforts in ensuring that the college of commissioners are fully appraised of the challenges not only faced by antisemitism but by repeated initiatives that seek to ban or severely impact fundamentals of Jewish faith and practice. We were reassured by Madame Commissioner that the Commission is fully committed to ensuring freedom of religion.

Our recent briefing at the UK Parliament, within the House of Lords, in collaboration with UK Israel Future Projects and hosted by Lord Bew, was a highly successful occasion.

The session included an insightful presentation by Mr. Itamar Marcus, Director of Palestinian Media Watch. He explored Palestinian ideology and policy in the context of events leading up to October 7th, providing valuable insights into the potential developments of Gaza leadership. This discussion particularly focused on the significant challenges within the broader Palestinian Authority ideology.

The event drew a diverse audience, including parliamentarians, journalists, presidents of Israel societies at London universities, think tank representatives, and key members of the Jewish community.
