EUROPEAN JEWISH ASSOCIATION THANKS EU LEADERS FOR NOT ON MY WATCH COMMITMENT

As International Holocaust Memorial Day drew to a close, the European Jewish Association (EJA) this evening thanked all the many European Leaders who lit an EJA candle that was sent to them and posted pictures of themselves lighting it on social media with under the EJA campaign #NotOnMyWatch

Presidents and Prime Ministers from across Europe, Commissioners, MEPs, Ambassadors, Diplomats, National Parliamentarians and even a famous german actress and all took part, posting pictures, and messages of support and solidarity.

Speaking this evening EJA Chairman Rabbi Menachem Margolin said,

“With the recent Fundamental Rights Agency Report that paints an awful picture of antisemitism across the continent, and with European Elections getting closer, this day was more important than ever. We thank the many European Leaders who took not only the time to honour our dead, but also sent a strong signal of their commitment and support to European Jewry. Not on my watch, they said. We will hold them to their word.

Everyone one of us needs to be vigilant, particularly those with the added responsibility that comes with power and office. Today they promised they would be.

Once again, I thank them all for their clear support for the Jewish people of Europe, on whose behalf the EJA exists.”
