The Chabad Lubavitch Movement, which provides community building assistance to many thousands of communities worldwide, started operations in Hungary in 1989.
As a delegate of the late Lubavitch Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Schneershon, Rabbi Baruch Oberlander and his wife came to Budapest to help the Jewish community in the country. From the foundations of this work the EMIH Jewish Community, with its leader rabbi Slomó Köves, grew up.
